If you’ve come across the phrase Pengamalan Rutin 13 — often shortened to PR 13 — and wondered what it refers to, this is the short version.
A set of thirteen daily recitations
Pengamalan Rutin 13 is a structured daily routine built around thirteen recitations. It’s widely practised in Indonesian Muslim communities as a way of giving shape to daily dhikr: rather than reciting whatever comes to mind, you work through a fixed, ordered list.
The set opens with the well-known tahlil:
لاَ اِلَهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيْكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ
There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is capable of all things.
From there it moves through tasbih, tahmid, takbir, hawqala, istighfar and other familiar formulas — each with its own recommended count.
Why a fixed list helps
Two reasons, mostly.
It removes decisions. Open-ended dhikr requires you to choose what to recite every single time. A fixed sequence removes that friction; you just start at one and continue.
It makes progress legible. With thirteen numbered items and a count attached to each, you always know exactly where you are and what remains. That turns an abstract intention into something finishable.
Keeping count
The traditional tool is a tasbih, and it works well. The practical difficulty is the record — remembering across thirteen separate items which ones you’ve completed today, and whether yesterday went as planned.
That’s the specific gap PR 13 was built to fill. The full set is preloaded and numbered, each item shows the Arabic text alongside transliteration and meaning, targets are set for you, and counts can reset automatically each day. A 52-week history shows how the routine has actually gone over time.
Beyond the thirteen
Most people who keep the routine also want other things nearby: a dua for a specific moment, prayer times, the Qibla, the Quran. Rather than scattering those across five apps, PR 13 keeps them in one — including an offline Quran with translation, a categorised dua collection, a prayer schedule with a monthly calendar, and a Qibla compass.
